Cosplay Contest Rules

Schedule:
Green Room Judging: 1:00 pm
Stage Presentation: 3:00 pm

You may surprise the audience, but NEVER SURPRISE THE CREW.

No fire, flame, smoke, fog, dry ice, wind machines, lasers, pressurized gases or liquids.

No messy substances—wet, dry, or oily—in the green room or on stage.

No jumping on or off stage—please use the officially designated stage entrances and exits.

Stage ninjas will be present to assist performers on and off stage.

GEEX Cosplay Contest is a family friendly event. Content should not go beyond PG-13.

  • No profanity.
  • No excessive violence.
  • No sexual activity or contact—real or implied.
  • No nudity.
  • All sexual jokes must have a non-sexual interpretation that is at least as obvious as the sexual one, especially to someone who hasn’t seen the anime or game being referenced.
  • No yaoi, yuri, or hentai.
  • All content is subject to consideration by the GEEX Staff.
  • All weapons must be peace bonded and approved at the entrance of GEEX. GEEX Cosplay Contest has the right to disqualify and cosplays with weapons missing their peace bonding.

The cosplay contest will be judged on two parts: Craftsmanship and Stage Presence. Anyone who does not show up for judging, does not get to walk on for the contest. End of discussion. IF you do not show up for stage presence after being judged you then forfeit your right to obtain the grand prize of the contest, but may receive a judges award for your craftsmanship. Purpose: We want everyone to see how amazing you are and it's not fair to the others who wait around during the day to show their stage presence after being judged for Craftsmanship as well.

If for whatever reason one contestant is removed from competition OR the Expo for any violation the entire group will be disqualified from the cosplay contest if they entered as a group. Mind your peers.

All decisions made by the Cosplay Coordinator, GEEX Con Staff, or the Programming Director are final and may only be changed by a formal challenge though Programming.

No harassment, making fun of others’ costumes, or destruction of costumes.

All entrants cosplays must reflect the theme of the Expo, which is electronic gaming.

    Judging Criteria

Stage Presence Judging (Everyone is judged the same on this):

  • How well you are in character when on stage.
  • The ability to show off your cosplay to the audience.
  • Creativity. How you present your cosplay(s) to the audience.

  • Craftsmanship Judging:

  • Costumes will be judged individually, even with group entries.
  • The workmanship awards are based on the design, construction, execution, and general presentation of the costume.
  • Costume Workmanship entrants must either do a walk-on presentation or be in a skit. The walk-on presentation is not judged, but exists to ensure that all entrants are able to display their costume entries on stage in some manner.
